In this episode of Lemon Compendium Recipes, Yasemen demonstrates how to make Bobotie. Bobotie is a traditional dish from South Africa. Almost like a meat pie, the addition of lemon lightens it and makes it perfect for any time of the week. Bobotie

Ingredients

  • For The Filling:
  • 2 white bread slices,
  • stale without crusts
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 2 tsp curry powder
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • 2 eggs
  • 1lb beef, minced
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp apricoat jam
  • For The Topping:
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tbsp flaked almonds
  • Lemon leaves, to garnish
