In Thailand, this dish is known as ‘Crying Tiger’ or ‘Weeping Tiger’. Basically it’s a marinated steak with spicy dipping sauce called ‘Nam Jim Jaew’. This is an amazing combination of spicy, sweet and sour. The tender, marinated and grilled steak slices taste so great especially dipped in the sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 piece rump steak
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • For the sauce
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • 1 shallot
  • 2 tsp chilli flakes
  • 1 lime
  • 1-2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp palm sugar or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 2-3 baby tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp finely chopped coriander
  • 1-2 tsp grounded toasted rice
